Résumé
The ageing of the general population results in an increased incidence of lung cancer among the elderly. About one third of all lung cancers occur in patients aged 70 and more. Epidemiological characteristics differ from younger patients regarding the sex ratio, which decreases with age and the proportion of non-smokers, which is increasing. The treatment applied has long been sub-optimal in the elderly but it should be more adapted now as a result of comprehensive geriatric assessments. A significant proportion of elderly patients with lung cancer may benefit from similar therapies as their younger counterparts. Ongoing dedicated clinical trials are expected to identify the best therapeutic indications for elderly patients.
