Glucocorticoids (GCs) are the mainstay of treatment for patients with polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). Despite their efficacy, GCs are associated with well-known adverse events and a substantial proportion of patients with PMR do not respond adequately, or are refractory, to initial GC treatment.
